There was a time she was assigned a group project on a campaign the company was working on when she used to work at SoMe Solutions. Her boss at that time assigned them to the project based on their strengths, familiarity with the proposed industry or someone on the client’s team. She got assigned to this particular project because she had worked with some of the clients before on a different campaign in the past. Their level of skills and experiences working with other clients was also a criteria used in selecting the members of this project.
They worked on the project remotely but they all used Google meets for meetings and calls, emails were also used to communicate with the clients. Every project had a WhatsApp group dedicated to communication, giving updates and sharing ideas. They also used Google suites, where they used the slides for pitches and Sheets for timeline/milestones tracking to create the campaign calendar in order to know when they were to do specific things.
What was difficult about doing the work? She mentioned that there were varying levels of difficulties when working with clients. For example, when they were working on the campaign for Aki and Paw Paw the movies, the clients had initially agreed on a scope of work for the campaign strategy when they onboarded them (SoMe Solutions) but by the time they started the campaign they wanted something else entirely different from what they had initially agreed upon. Which was annoying for her and her teammates because they already had what they were to work on before and it suddenly had to change because the clients wanted something else (in her own words; the clients would come up with an absolutely ridiculous idea). Another difficulty she faced was working with a cross-functional team where her team came in as the project managers, they had to work with graphics designers, videographers, photographers which made technical integration a little bit challenging. Since the project was a collaboration of people from different industries, they had to learn how to communicate cross-functionally to avoid miscommunication. Another instance she gave was with regards to documentation, being that the project involved a lot of calls and meetings, someone from the team could say he/she heard something different whereas that wasn’t what was said, but because there was no proper documentation for some calls, there was no evidence or way to track it.
What did you find easy about the project? Being that she had previously worked with different companies on different projects in the past, this particular project was no different than that since she was already familiar with the industry.
Her team members were people she had worked with before and it made the project enjoyable being that they all had different experiences from working on other projects and they were able to learn from each other as well.
Overall, her experience on the project was great, she learnt a lot from the clients and vendors they worked with while building new connections that would come in handy during other future campaigns or projects. She also learnt to interact better with people from different teams.

The initial problem we chose wasn’t working out so we looked at the grand challenges and opportunities in Africa and settled on Job creation. Going forward, the goal is to identify the challenges/problems people face with regards to getting a Job in Nigeria and keeping said job. To better understand how to go about this, we did a test run of this by sharing our individual experiences getting a job and our experience on the job and identified our problem statement from the conversations.
The task would be to talk to different people and listen to the experience they had while getting a job and on the job and identify if there was any problem that can be evaluated.
